Our father, Southam Chanthavong, was born on August 5, 1951 in Vientiane Laos. He fought his battle against bladder cancer for 10 long years. Despite spending much of his last 2 years in and out of the hospital, he never lost his desire to beat the disease and stay strong for his family. As an immigrant from Vientiane Laos, he migrated to the United States in 1978 to give his family a better life. He loved the outdoors, gardening, music and spending time with his family.
Southam is survived by his wife Somchit Chanthavong and their four children, Viengsavahn Neslon, Lamphanh Chanthavong-Virkler, Phoungeun Noy Thomas and Chomphouchanh Chanthavong. His 11 grandchildren Tyrran Chanthavong, Tykenia Chanthavong, Kathleen Nelson, Anthony Nelson, Andrew Chanthavong, Andre Austin, Tydarius Chanthavong, Andrew Nelson, Kiana Austin, Orianna Green and Nia Thomas and 5 great grandchildren, Felix Chanthavong, Cali Nunez, TJ Nunez, Ty'Ori Chanthavong and Simba Nunez.
