Col. Stanley N. McLeod (USMC Ret.) passed away in Orlando, Florida on 8 December, 2005. He was born in the Bronx, New York on April 16, 1920. He entered the Marine Corps in 1938 as a private and in October, 1942 received a commission while on Guadalcanal. He served in the First Marine Division (B-1-7) on Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and New Britain. Later in the war, he participated in the campaign on Okinawa and then was part of the occupation forces in Tsingtao China. He met his wife Anne there, who was a Navy Nurse at the time. He later saw action in the Korean conflict. His duty included bases in the Caribbean, China, Philippines, New Jersey, a Mediterranean Cruise, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Japan, and Hawaii. He commanded the Marine Barracks at Pearl Harbor when he retired in 1968. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with Combat V and the Purple Heart among other medals.
Following the Marine Corps, he spent 10 years with the George Washington University Personnel Department. He retired from there in 1978 and moved to Florida. He then filled his time with family, friends and travel. He was active in several USMC associations and went to 1st Marine Division and B-1-7 reunions each year. He and his wife of 59 years also did extensive travel each year keeping them active while visiting friends and far off places. He was truly "always a Marine" and lived the Marine Corps motto of 'Semper Fidelis'.
In addition to his wife Anne, he is survived by his sons Mike and Tom, their wives Dianna and Judy, granddaughter Jessica, grandsons Matthew and Daniel.
