Steve Avellone, 60, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2016, at his home. Steve was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 15, 1955, beloved son of Salvatore (Sam) and Marie ( nee Geraci). Steve graduated from Bedford High School in Temperance, Michigan, and the University of Miami in Florida. Steve is survived by his loving wife Terri, and his two wonderful sons, Michael and David; twin brother Sam and his wife Karli ( Cleveland, Ohio); sister Barbara McKay and her husband Rob ( Ferrisburgh, Vermont); brother Frank and his wife Janet (Chicago,Illinois) ; and half-sister Andre Cineski (Las Vegas, Nevada).
Steve was an amazing father and husband. Days before his death, God had afforded a reunion with his siblings and in laws from all over the country, who had not gathered together for twenty years. The week was wrapping up when he passed. Indeed, he was blessed to have everyone with him.
For almost 40 years Steve was recognized as a national power in the radio advertising and marketing industry, beginning with his employment at Love94 in Miami from 1977 to 1984. Later, Steve became General Manager at Y103 in Jacksonville, where he met his wife, Terri. From Jacksonville, Steve became the managing owner of 92.3 The Fort in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he put a new radio station on the air and made it a successful venture. Steve and his family moved back to Florida in order to pursue his dream of shaping the Central Florida radio and advertising market. His accomplishments at WKLU in Indianapolis and at local radio stations WMMO, K92, WDBO,Power 95.3 WLOQ and WOFL were examples of his contributions to radio advertising and marketing. He was a visionary in the industry and his grasp and involvement in the digital age at iHeartRadio was the most recent endeavor where Steve's magic was making its usual huge impact . His innovations, made with his trademark high energy, always generated positive results. He will be missed by thousands of colleagues, friends and family.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held at his home in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, April 2, 2016
