Stephen Anthony Marino, Sr., of Putnam Valley, NY, passed away suddenly on Jan 4th, 2024 while visiting his family in Orlando, FL.
Stephen was born on Oct 8th, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to Anthony and Anita Marino. Along with his ten siblings he grew up on Long Island and graduated from Lindenhurst High School. He was brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and awarded a BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1968 and would later earn a MS at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
Steve was proud of his long career in physics, working for 46 years as a Radiological Research Physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Columbia University's Center for Radiological Research. His work benefiting the fields of Oncology, Space Biology, and many others, resulted in over 80 publications and over 2000 citations on researchgate.net alone.
A loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather, Steve was known for putting his family first, providing a nurturing environment for his children, and always doing everything he could to ensure their successes later in life. In addition to attending school band concerts and scouting campouts, he taught his children the difference between right and wrong, the importance of a good education, and the value of a dollar. Steve enjoyed visiting his family scattered around the country, foreign travel for work and pleasure, working outdoors, and the puzzle page in the daily newspaper.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Christine, his children Stephen Jr. (Jessica), Matthew (Megan), Christopher, Jessica (Alex) Burtzos, his grandchildren Stephen III and Gianna, his siblings Kenneth (Phyllis), Anita Swan, Nancy Allocca, Thomas (Stephanie), Teresa (Jay) Guthrie, Daniel (Deborah), and Loretta (Charles) Kristofek. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Arthur, Donald, and Dorothy Ann Alligood.
