It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tammy Genell Holland-Lafayette, age 52, of Orlando, FL. Tammy passed away on January 30, 2025, at Advent Hospital Orlando from complications of lung cancer.
Born in Shannon, Mississippi, in 1973, Tammy was the beloved only daughter of Ozzie Holland and Vinell Edwards. She graduated from Shannon High School, where her athletic talent earned her a full basketball scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University. There, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Tammy later discovered her passion for education, earning a Master’s degree and multiple certifications in educational administration. Her love for teaching, coaching, and mentoring children became a cornerstone of her life. Tammy touched the hearts of countless kids and their families in Orlando, and her impact will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her work as an educator and mentor, Tammy was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Psi Gamma Chapter. She cherished the bond of sisterhood and the opportunity to serve her community alongside her sorors.
Tammy was preceded in death by her father, Ozzie Holland, and her brother, Patrick Holland. She leaves behind her loving husband, Michael Lafayette; her cherished daughter, Lauryn Lafayette; sons Michael Jr., CJai, and DeAnthony Lafayette; and grandchildren Londyn, Aliyah, Khamari, Rayne, Ivy, and Mariah. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Jackie and Beline Lafayette, and a host of relatives, friends, and former students who will miss her dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at Harvest Community Church, located at 11002 Lake Hart Drive, Orlando, FL 32832. The service will celebrate the life of a loving mother, grandmother, educator, and friend who made a profound impact on everyone she met.
