Tanny Keith Ladue went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2020 after a courageous 8 month battle with cancer at the age of 76. She was born Tanny Dere Keith on June 8, 1944 in Plattsburgh, NY. Unbeknownst to her at the time, her future husband, Bill, was born 4 days prior in the same hospital.
Tanny spent her early years living and working seasonally at her parents restaurant The Royal Savage Inn. It was there that, from the age of 6, she learned to handle and count money and began her lifelong love of cooking. Tanny attended Peru High School where she was an A student and a cheerleader. After graduation she attended Syracuse University. While at SU, she reconnected with Bill and they started their life of 53 years together. She was also a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Tanny graduated from Syracuse University in 1966, married Bill in 1967 and they moved to Rochester, NY in 1970. In 1980 they escaped NY winters and moved to Orlando, FL. Along the way she plied her bookkeeping prowess for the Town of Webster, NY, Rochester Area Foundation, ABC Liquors, Central Florida Foundation and the Conway United Methodist Church. She cared about the communities she lived in, often volunteering her talents as needed.
One granddaughter wrote "Tanny is her name, puzzles are her game!" It's true! She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Jeopardy and word games such as Words With Friends – at which she was still beating her son up until the end. In her early years she enjoyed swimming, boating, skiing and knitting. She had a wonderfully clever wit and a great sense of humor so she made friends wherever she went. The consummate host, there was nothing she loved better than having friends over for wine and snacks. Her legendary meals will be missed.
Tanny is predeceased by her parents: Newton and Marion Keith, her sisters: Tomma Jean Sargent and Tarley Keith Lieberthal.
She is survived by her husband Bill, her daughter Tarla Jean Ladue, her son Ted, and her son Ben, his wife Lauren and their two children Luciana and Alessandra.
Arrangements are being made through Newcomer Funeral Home. Contributions can be made in her name to
Conway United Methodist Church or the
American Cancer Society.
Interment will be summer 2021 in Peru, NY and a reception will be held at Camp Wild Thyme on the shores of Lake Champlain
