Terri Rose Fong- Age 71, passed away March 10th, 2024. She was born May 2nd, 1952 at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida. Terri was the beloved daughter of Helen Margaret (Hewett) Bertrand and Robert Hector Bertrand. Richard, her loving husband met Terri in 1970. They married in 1971 in Saint Joseph, Michigan. Terri and Richard maintained a loving, caring and supportive marriage for 52 years.
Terri is survived by her husband Richard Fong; her daughter Lori Ann (Fong) Marks and her husband Hunter Marks; her grandchildren, Ashlyn Rose Fong, Shane Robert Folden, Abigail Grace Folden, and Ava Leigh Fong; her sister Sherie (Bertrand) Haunzwickli and her husband Wolf Haunzwickli; her niece Tabitha (Parmenter) Bruinsma and her husband Thomas Bruinsma; as well as their children Stephen and Connor Bruinsma.
Terri is preceded in death by her loving daughter, Carrie Lynn Fong; her father, Robert Hector Bertrand; her mother, Helen (Bertrand) Fox and her husband John Fox.
Terri attended and graduated from Hillcrest high school in Illinois. Terri and Richard moved to Florida from Illinois in 1977. Terri studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked night shift as a critical care cardiac nurse at Florida Hospital South (now Advent Health) until the early 1990's. She then worked for a worker's compensation company as a nurse case manager. Unfortunately due to health problems, Terri retired in 2011 at the age of 59.
Terri enjoyed spending time with her family. She and Richard spent many of their early years driving to skating competitions for their daughters, Carrie and Lori. Terri loved spending time at the beach, searching for and collecting seashells. Rich and Terri would often wake up to the sunrise right on the ocean while taking their RV out camping. As Carrie, their eldest daughter entered into early adulthood, she became very ill. Carrie was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension at the age of 19. At the time, she was only given months to live. Carrie required around the clock care, and her parents never left her side. She needed a double lung and heart transplant, however due to a new trial medication aimed to help patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension,Carrie lived another 24 years. This medication was trialed in Saint Louis, Missouri, and Terri and Richard traveled many times with their daughter to receive care. Ultimately, Carrie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011, and passed away in 2017 at the age of 43. Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to face. A part of their family is forever missed.
Richard retired shorty after Carrie passed away in early 2018. Terri and Richard moved to Apollo Beach, Florida; just south of Tampa. Terri always loved the water and was excited to move into a house directly on Tampa Bay. Richard and Terri enjoyed their retirement. They spent time with their daughter, Lori, their granddaughter, Ashlyn and had the benefit of watching their youngest granddaughter, Ava grow and excel into smart and beautiful young lady. We find comfort in knowing Terri is resting peacefully with her daughter, Carrie and her mother, Helen.
