Theodore Preston Young II, age 79, of Winter Park, Florida passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey on November 11, 1942 to father, Theodore and mother, Shirley (Vanoni) Young.
Ted is survived by his wife, Janice Helen Young, son Theodore Preston Young III and daughter-in-law Michele; daughter Jennie Leigh Young; daughter, Nikki Lynn Barker and son-in-law Christopher Barker; son Travis Parker Young; two sisters, Jacqueline Keim and Geraldine Foley; nine grandchildren, Kalena, Preston, Thomas, Malena, Camryn, Jenna, Elle, Addison and Charles; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Lily. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Ted grew up in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. He joined the United States Navy in 1960. After completing military service, he joined the Old Bridge Township Police Department. Ted graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in 1979. He was active in the Police Benevolent Association, and helped lead the first labor contract negotiations between the township and Union 127. An early adopter of technology, he helped deploy computer services for the department in the 1980s. He served the community for 26 years, retiring as Deputy Chief of Police in 1990. Upon retirement from police work, he moved to Winter Park, Florida, and was employed by corporate and personal security firms including FedEx and Buchanan Investigations. Ted was active in the Winter Park community, coaching Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He spent countless hours volunteering to build and take care of local athletic fields. Ted volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and participated in construction and restoration efforts following hurricanes in South and Central Florida. He loved spending time with his family, researching genealogy, reading, especially, historical novels, the New York Football Giants and telling "dad" jokes. Ted will be remembered for his integrity, his generosity of spirit, his leadership, his sense of humor and his dashing good looks.
Services for Ted will be held October 9, 2022 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Simpson United Methodist Church, 2095 County Rd 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A celebration of his life will also take place on his birthday, November 11, 2022 in Orlando, Florida (details to follow).
