In Loving Memory of Thomas McDonald Dougherty
1970 - 2023

Tom deserves more than a formulaic obituary. Yes, he was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents were Daniel Dougherty and Sharron McDonald. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University and worked in the financial industry.

But that doesn't tell his story.
Tom loved traveling the world and experiencing new adventures. He enjoyed mentoring and teaching others. He was extremely skilled in sales, and was passionate about precision shooting. He himself was learning until the end. Tom recently took up western dressage and couldn't wait to get back on his horse (Thanks Mister—for being his perfect riding partner).

Obituaries always detail those who "survived". I prefer to instead focus on those with whom he left part of himself. I (Victoria Sterling Dougherty) am his loving wife of twenty-three years. I hoped for twenty-three more. He was supported by his fantastic sister Anne Fitzgerald Dougherty Bryant, and her husband Jay. They exemplify compassion.

Tom was also blessed with a bonus family. Bill and Doris Randall and their children embraced us with so much love. We are family for life.
Tom had many friends, and connecting with them helped him get through the tough times during the six years he was ill. You know who you are, and you have my thanks for the assistance over the years. He treasured each of you. And I know that you all will say that you are a better person for having known Tom. Me too.

Tom deserved more time. He made the most of every minute he had. He was my partner, my coach, my protector and my best friend. I treasure all the moments we shared. Tom left this world on his own terms, just as he lived the last fifty-two years. I am so very proud of him and will miss him greatly.
Tom requested there be no funeral services. Please celebrate his life with your family and friends. Remember how precious life is, and treasure your loved ones. For those wishing to memorialize Tom, please consider a donation to the terrific team at Moffitt Cancer Center who gave Tom exemplary care and great quality of life. Please designate your gift to RESEARCH.
