Tracy L. Jones

April 17, 1974 — April 9, 2020

The beautiful Tracy Lynn Jones, age 45, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 after battling cancer, which she won, due to the collective arsenal of love that carried her on to victory.

Tracy was born on April 17, 1974 in Cincinnati, OH. In 1992, she graduated from Mt. Healthy High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and went to earn a Master of Education in Nursing.

She married her husband, Byron Quincy Jones, on October 1, 2004, and they were happily married for 15 years. They are proud parents of two lovely children, Marcus Troy who is 22 years old, and Summer Cheney-Amor who is 12 years old.

Tracy worked as a registered nurse at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital for two years, and then was recruited to join Nemours Children's Clinic, which eventually became Nemours Children's Hospital, where she worked in Orlando for 15 years. Known as the "IV and Glitter Queen," Tracy was a manager/educator to the hematology/oncology and infusion service line. Tracy was instrumental with the operations of both the hemophilia clinic and sickle cell clinic, along with procedures being safely performed in the infusion center. She was also a preceptor for several individuals who were in master's programs. Early at Nemours Children's Hospital, she was recognized for achieving scores that had not been seen before in the Zenger Folkman Leadership Assessment, which was obtained by her staff. She was an outstanding leader among leaders, and was a highly respected among all departments, often called "the smartest person in the room." She had a remarkable way of translating her professional knowledge into a humanistic outreach to the children she served.

Tracy had a zest for life, and absolutely lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed going out and dancing on weekends, as well as being at home hosting parties. They have danced all over the country. Music was a big part of her life, and often told people that Prince was her first husband. In addition to Prince, Tracy also had a deep love affair with hip-hop, also shared by Byron, and they had a ball traveling across the country for concerts. She was an avid Wu-Tang Clan listener and follower, often reciting their rhymes. She was obsessed with all things Harry Potter, and it would not be unusual for her to drop some Potter knowledge, at the drop of a dime. Tracy wasn't a cook, but adored watching every cooking show on the planet. She enjoyed the many weekend getaways with her family to the beaches of Florida.

Tracy had an infectious and contagious laugh that will forever echo in the hearts of everyone she encountered. In fact, she and Byron were regulars at the Orlando Improv Comedy Club, where they would meet up with friends on weekends. Suffice it to say that Tracy was always smiling and laughing. People always felt better having merely been in her presence.

Tracy is survived by Byron Jones, Marcus Troy, Summer Cheney-Amor, mother T. Teresa Hamilton, Walter McLean, Beverly Martin, Walter Hamilton, Jr., Tina Hamilton, Sandra Hamilton, and a host nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tracy is also survived by her devoted mother-in-law Connie Jones, father-in law Henry Wise Jones, sister-in-law Juliette Jones Pettijohn, brother-in-law Marcus Jones, and a huge loving extended kinship network from the Jones and Gatewood families.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie V. Hamilton and Walter Hamilton, Sr., and Lela May and Duvern McLean.
