Trudie Mae Thompson Baker

January 6, 1931 — January 4, 2022

Trudie Mae Thompson Baker died January 4th, 2022. Trudie was born January 6th, 1931 in Baxley, Georgia. She was the third of five children born to Marcus Thompson and Marjorie Screws Thompson. Her one sister and three brothers all preceded her in death.

Due to her parents divorcing in 1943, Trudie became the ward of her Sunday School teacher, Mary Risk. "Aunt" Mary and Trudie soon moved to Florence, South Carolina and later moved again to St. Petersburg, Florida where Trudie graduated from St. Petersburg High School in June 1949. Following high school, Trudie attended the Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta, Georgia until graduating in 1950. She next moved to Washington, DC to begin her formal ministry with the Salvation Army. It is there that she first met her future husband, H.R. (Bob) Baker.

Trudie and Bob Baker were married on December 30th, 1952. Bob's career in the Marine Corps meant their "home address" changed periodically until Bob retired from military service and they made Florida their permanent residence in 1970. They were married for 58 years until Bob's death in 2010. They together built a life of love and mutual devotion to one another and to their children, family, and friends.

Trudie is survived by her three children and their spouses:
Robert Baker & spouse, Gloria Baker, of Oakland, Florida
Donna Israel & spouse, Terry Israel, of Ft. Worth, Texas
Kathryn Mount & spouse, Sam Mount, of Statesville, North Carolina

Trudie is the beloved grandmother (Gigi) to 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren (with 2 more great grandchildren due in the next few months).

Trudie was known for her daily pursuit of Christ's calling for her life. She had a love for God's Word, prayed consistently for many, and regularly sought to serve others. As her physical strength waned, her commitment to ministering to others took the form of cards, letters, and even "texts" of encouragement to family and friends. Amazingly, she has maintained friendships over the span of time and physical distance that go back as far as her college years.

Trudie is deeply cherished by her family and friends. Memories of her loving presence will continue to bless those whose lives she touched.
