Vincent Mercado

January 22, 1937 — March 12, 2025

Orlando

Vincent Mercado, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, stepfather, veteran, and friend, was born on January 22, 1937, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He embarked on his earthly journey and left this world peacefully on March 12, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by the love of his family.

Vincent's life was a testament to dedication and service. He served honorably in the United States Army for 20 years, participating in the Gulf War, and earned his place as a proud veteran. His sense of duty was reflected not only in his military career but also in his life as a retired postal worker, where he faithfully served his community.

Vincent was a man of many passions and interests. First and foremost, Vincent was a devout Catholic who served in his church parish and attended mass every week with his wife. Together, they formed a deep spiritual bond within their union. His love for Jesus Christ was evident in the life that he lived and in how he loved others. He cherished the skies as a pilot, holding a private pilot’s license and sharing this beautiful passion with his son, Hector, who continues to keep the love of flying alive. His jovial spirit was infectious; he loved to dance, share stories, and engage in conversations about politics and vibrant, controversial topics. Family memories abound of unforgettable meals, prayerful Sundays at mass, and joyous gatherings filled with laughter and song, including an endearing melody he would sing to his daughter, Barbara, called "mi nina bonita."

The heart of Vincent’s life was his family. For 32 loving years, he was married to Esperanza Salgado Mercado, building a faith-centered life together that fortified their deep bond. Their commitment to one another and shared values set a timeless example for their children, family, friends and community. Vincent is survived by his children Hector, Barbara, and Alex, whom he raised with love, morals, and an enduring faith that they carry with them today. Vincent instilled in them a sense of culture, ensuring they spoke Spanish and celebrated their heritage.

He also embraced the roles of a loving stepfather to Osvaldo Salgado, Jose Salgado, and Yvette Gonzalez. Each relationship was cherished, marked by shared love and respect that filled his life with joy. As a grandfather, Vincent was immensely proud of his grandchildren—Bria, Bryson, Presley, Mason, and Sophia—forming bonds that brought him continued happiness and fulfillment.

Vincent's love for food was matched only by the warmth he found in family gatherings, often exploring new culinary delights. His commitment to faith and family was a guiding light in his life, and he often spoke of how important it was for them to be close and support one another. Even in the final moments of his life, he was engulfed in family love, surrounded by Esperanza, Hector, Barbara, Jose, and Janett, as well as his dear niece Carmen.

He leaves behind a legacy defined by courage, laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to family—a remarkable testament to a life well-lived. Vincent Mercado’s spirit, humor, and zest for life will be a source of solace and inspiration to all who knew him. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, but the memories he created will continue to shine brightly, exemplifying the love that transcends all boundaries. In his last moments, Esperanza sang him "Ave Maria" while Hector stood on his other side crying out to Jesus for peace and love to consume his father as he stepped into eternity. Vincent was engulfed in a symphony of worship and praise to his God until his last breath.
