Violeta was born on October 1, 1939 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Jesus R. Rivera and Emma L. Medina who have both preceded her in death. She was a retired corrections officer for the State of Florida and of the Methodist Faith.
Violeta's upbringing in the islands inspired her love for the ocean; her favorite place to travel was the Caribbean. She loved a new adventure, especially if it was with her family. One of her greatest desires was to visit Italy, which she did with her daughter, Lynn, in 2010. She was the heart of her family and they were her proudest accomplishment. She was happiest when the people she loved surrounded her, especially during the holidays. The holidays were filled with many traditions she held dear to her heart, especially preparing pasteles for Christmas. She loved to cook for her family and was best known for her "killer rice," which lived up to the superlative name. She took great pride in her garden, as she loved to grow vegetables and tend to her roses and orchids. She left her family with many cherished memories and she will be deeply missed.
Violeta is survived by her husband, Carlos Hernandez; daughters, Lynn Nazario and Taryn Baltazar; sons, Benjamin I. Nazario Jr. and Kai Hernandez; grandchildren, Sharyl L. Nazario, Orlando "O'Ray" Remak, Jesi Nazario, Joseph Nazario, Arlo Perkins-Hernandez and Nola Perkins-Hernandez.
