Virgil K Picklesimer

September 27, 1961 — September 5, 2021

Virgil "Kevin" Picklesimer 59 passed away on Sunday September 5, 2021, at Central Florida Regional Hospital with his loving wife Sarah by his side. His remarkable daughters, Naomi and Anna, were also with them during this transition to his heavenly home. Kevin was born on September 27th, 1961, in Sanford, FL as the first child of Virgil and Carol Picklesimer.

Kevin graduated from Junction City High School in 1980. Kevin joined the Army and served as a Pershing Missile Crewman in Oklahoma and Germany. He also served as a forward observer with the 1st Infantry Division in the Persian Gulf War where he earned the Bronze Star Medal and Southwest Asia Service Medal. Kevin met his wife Sarah through his now brother-in-law Sam which is Sarah's twin brother. After corresponding for 6 months, they finally met, and it was love at first sight for Kevin and Sarah. Their first date was in Paris, France and their second date was in Meersburg Meinau, Switzerland.

Kevin and Sarah were married June 30th, 1984, in Carthage, IL. Kevin and Sarah moved to Ft. Sill, OK for one year before they moved to Germany where Naomi was born in December 1988. They then moved to Ft. Riley, KS where Anna was born May 1991. Kevin left the Army as a staff sergeant in 1991 and moved to Sanford with his family. Kevin loved his family and took great care of them. He loved not only his immediate family but also his extended family.

Kevin was fun to be around with his dry sense of humor and was even referred to as Uncle Sunshine and 5 AM Uncle for trips to the airport by one of his nieces and nephews. As a devout Christian, Kevin served faithfully as a deacon and as head usher at his church for many years. He loved to watch football and always said his two favorite teams were the ones playing whenever he was watching a game. Never to be forgotten though his favorite teams were the Miami Dolphins and Florida Gators. Kevin loved being on the chain gang for the Sanford High School Seminoles for 10 years and looked forward to it every season. He always said it was his physical activity for the year.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father Virgil Picklesimer, his maternal grandmother Daisy Herman MacAlexander and his paternal grandmother, Nina Picklesimer Castle, his beloved Uncle Mark Rumler and his Uncle Roy Picklesimer. Kevin is survived by his wife Sarah of 37 years, his daughters Naomi and Anna, and his mother Carol Picklesimer all of Sanford, FL. His brothers Ken (Tracey), and Keith (Lori) of Savannah, GA and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him. Kevin will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
