Virginia Sue "Ginny" VandeStreek, (née McCoy), aged 73, died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 27, 2023, after a one-year battle with gallbladder cancer. Ginny was born to Woodrow McCoy and Kathryn Louise McCoy (née Berry) on March 6, 1950, in Plainwell, Michigan. Ginny grew up in Michigan, graduating from Otsego High School in 1968. She also attended college at Eastern Michigan University, as well as Western Michigan University where she studied math. Ginny met her husband, Jack, whom she married April 25, 1981. They moved their family to Longwood, Florida, in 1984.
Throughout her life, Ginny worked as an administrative assistant in Michigan, and as a Closing Title Agent in Sanford, Florida. She was also an avid book reader and book club attender. She sewed often and made many quilts that she gave to grandkids, family, and friends.
Shortly after settling in Florida, Ginny and Jack started attending First Baptist Church of Sweetwater in Longwood. During this time, Ginny became a Christian and over the years developed a deep faith in God which changed the course of her life. She loved Jesus with her whole life. Their family also gathered friends at CrossLife Church in Oviedo. Northland, in Longwood, was her church home for the last several years.
In 1989, she and Jack started caring for children in foster care, eventually loving over 30 precious kids. It was during this time that they added sons Rafael and Rashawn to their family, and in raising them became involved in several groups around Central Florida that provide opportunities for children and adults of varying abilities. This was her life passion, and in her community she found many dear friends that became family to her as well.
Ginny is survived by her loving husband, Jack, as well as her children Kristen Martin (Derek), Chad Elferink (Shannon), Rafael VandeStreek, and Rashawn VandeStreek. She has grandchildren William Martin (Cory), Kathryn Bascue (Barrett), Caleb Elferink, Emily Martin, Natalie Martin, Tess Martin, Abby Elferink, Shelby Martin, and one great-grandson, Teddy Martin. She is also survived by her brother, Stan McCoy (Kathy), and sisters Wanda Nemeth and Waneeta Ott.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Merrilee Kruck, Faith VanDyke, and Hope Dean.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking for donations to help one of the programs that has blessed our family greatly,
