Walter "PaPa" Johnson, 86, Orlando FL, went to be with his Lord, August 6, 2014. Born in Albermarle County Virginia, Walt joined the US Army before he was 18 and had multiple terms of service. His career spanned World War II and the Korean War where he served as surgical technician, receiving the Korean Service Medal and Army of Occupation medal for Japan.
From his early days in Virginia, Walter enjoyed farming and had harvested a plot of land in East Orlando for over 30 years, keeping his family and neighbors in fresh fruits and vegetables.
An avid water skier, Florida was the perfect home for Walter who could be seen on Lake Killarney and Lake Underhill barefoot and slalom skiing almost every weekend until a heart attack required he take it easy.
Known for his friendly demeanor as a Bellows TV repair technician, upon retirement he supported the family-owned child care facility "Aunt Delores' Child Care" with repairs, lawn care and maintenance. Known by the nursery children and their family as "Mr. Walt" he was a kind face with a wonderful welcome to many generations.
Preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Longworth and grandson Lawrence Martin, he is survived by his wife Delores "Aunt Delores" Johnson, 5 step children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be 5:00PM-9:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12th and the memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 13th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando 32822.
