Wassif Baz, age 82, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at Cornerstone Hopsice in Orlando. He was the husband of Amal (Salman) Baz.
Wally was born in Alley, Lebanon to parents Hani and Hanac (Obeid) Baz. He came to the United States to study at St. Petersburg Jr. College, graduating there in 1961. He then moved on to West Virginia to study at West Virginia Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in 1966. He worked primarily as a chemical engineer, and later in food quality control specialist before his retirement. In 1976 he and his wife fled the civil war in Lebanon and started a new life in Florida. They have resided there since then, where they raised their two daughters, instilling in them the importance of a good education. He was an avid collector of coins and watches. He passed away after a short but rough battle with dementia. His passing was sudden and he will be remembered and missed by many.
Besides his wife, Amal, Wally is survived by his daughters, Hanna Baz, and Nora Baz; his sister, Samia Mousharifieh; two nephews, and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Halim Baz.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 9:30 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL followed by graveside services at 11:00 am at Chuluota Cemetery, 877 Lake Mills Road, Chuluota, FL 32766.
Interment will follow the service.
