Whittaker Lloyd A. Bridge

Whittaker Lloyd Allen Bridge was born in Lionel Town, Clarendon in Jamaica on October 19, 1949. He was born to parents: Florence Soloman and Burditt Heratio Bridge. At the age of 5 years old, when his mother passed away, Lloyd was adopted and raised by Rupert Ellis and Albertha Agatha Ellis. In 1969, he had a son with Harthlyn Harris, Tony.

Lloyd would pursue several jobs before deciding on a career in construction. While on a construction site he learned that growth in one's career could be opened with more education. Upon learning that his foreman's boss had a B.S. degree in Engineering and moved up in the company quickly, Lloyd decided to save all of his money and applied to the College of Arts, Science & Technology (CAST) [now the University of Technology, Jamaica]. However, he only had enough money to cover one semester, but vowed that he would earn a full scholarship to cover the remaining semesters until graduation, and in one semester he did just that. In three years, he graduated from CAST with a degree in Structural Engineering with Honours.

In 1975, Lloyd moved to Brooklyn, NY and in 1976 married Sheila Bridge. Soon after they had two daughters, Candice and Deanna, and they then moved to Orlando, FL in 1984.

In 1989, he graduated from Nova University with a B.S. degree in Business. In 1995, he became a Founding Trustee of the Minority/Women-Business Enterprise Alliance, Inc. That same year, Lloyd began his career in construction. Over the next 30 years, he established a firm name in the community that many know, Amwell Corporation, Inc. It is this legacy that has changed the landscape of Orlando, FL. He built buildings for many organizations and private citizens including Walt Disney World, NASA, the City of Orlando, the Federal Government, Valencia College and the University of Central Florida.
In 2007 he met Isatou Jallow-Bridge. In 2008 they married, and he moved to Rome, Italy. His family grew from three children to five, with the addition of Aida and Madina.

His interests included music (listening, playing, singing, whistling, dancing whenever it moved his spirit), history, life-long learning, mentoring young and old alike, and building new things. We all know that Lloyd loved to travel because he always spoke about his one pair of sandals that has been to 4 different continents or the 38-year old bag from Mexico.

Mr. Bridge is survived by his wife Isatou Jallow-Bridge and his children: Whittaker Lloyd Anthony Bridge, Candice Bridge, Deanna Bridge, Aida Semega-Janneh, and Madina Semega-Janneh. He also leaves behind his siblings: Iota White, Veronica Reid, Marleene Clark, Derek Bridge, Ivor Bridge, Valarie Farinha, Darna Bridge, Denver Bridge, Jim Bridge, Rorry Bridge, Paula Williams, Gary Bridge, Doug Bridge, Ivan Cross and Roy Cross; his grandchildren: Whittaker Lloyd Ashton Bridge, Shenelle Bridge, Shannon Bridge and Danielle Bridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.

On October 10, 2020, Whittaker Lloyd Allen Bridge transitioned home. He was preceded in death by his parents: Florence Soloman, Burditt Bridge, Rupert Ellis, Albertha Ellis; his brothers: Ravel Bridge, Claude Spencer and Allan Hillman. and his sisters: Cherry Bridge, Enid Toyloy. May he forever rest in perfect peace.
