William H. Barnett, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on March 13, 1948, in Montgomery, Alabama, Bill grew up in Opelika, Alabama, the son of Bill Barnett Sr. and Roma Barnett, and the beloved brother of Susan Irvine. From an early age, he exhibited the intelligence, determination, and warmth that would define his remarkable life.

 A proud graduate of Auburn University, Bill pursued a distinguished career as an Aerospace Engineer. Among his many accomplishments, he served as Launch Director for the storied Titan Rocket Program at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base, Florida, a role that showcased his exceptional leadership and expertise in space exploration.

 Bill served his country with honor in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring with full honors. His dedication to public service extended well beyond his military career, as he remained passionately committed to serving his community.

 In addition to his groundbreaking work in aerospace, Bill succeeded in the private sector, serving as a leader and project manager for Johnson Controls for over a decade. His dedication to excellence, innovation, and teamwork earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

 Bill’s zest for life was evident in his love for adventure and travel, as well as his unwavering support for Auburn Tiger football and the Atlanta Braves. A devoted fan, he found joy in cheering for his favorite teams and sharing those moments with family and friends. Known for his outgoing and friendly spirit, Bill was a man who never met a stranger, always ready with a warm smile, a kind word, or an engaging story.

 Bill is survived by his two children, Andrew Barnett and Emily Barnett; his loving partner, Deborah Sumner; and his sister, Susan Irvine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Barnett Sr. and Roma Barnett.

 Bill will be remembered for his sharp intellect, generous heart, and boundless energy. His legacy of service, adventure, and love will live on in the countless lives he touched.

 A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Newcomer East Orlando Chapel.
