William Freeman

October 18, 1934 — July 23, 2023

William Freeman, age 88—Bill to his friends and family—of Windermere, Florida passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont. He was the loving husband of the late Jimmie Helen (Shoupe) Freeman.

Bill was born on October 18, 1934 in Uleta, FL (now a part of North Miami Beach), to his late parents, George and Louisa (Winkelmann) Freeman.

A lifelong resident of Florida, Bill attended Miami Edison High School and the University of Miami. In the early 1970s, he was asked by his employer to move to Central Florida to open a branch office. Bill agreed, and under his management, Nass Service Company, Inc. became the largest and most successful restaurant equipment repair and supply company in the state. Nass was run as a family business; Bill and Jimmie's children as well as many other relatives worked there at one time or another, but even the employees who were not actual family called Bill, "Dad."

Bill was a devoted family man, Boy Scout Leader, and member of the Lutheran Church. In his later years, he was also very active as an advocate for the vision impaired and an officer of the Greater Orlando Council of the Blind and Florida Council of the Blind. He loved to travel, though his favorite place to be was home with his family.

Bill is survived by his four children, George W. "Bill" Freeman and his wife, Mardy, of Steinhatchee, FL; Kathryn L. Johns; James E. Freeman and his wife, Jo Ann, of Clermont, and David W. Freeman; thirteen grandchildren, Jonathan Freeman, James Freeman, Kathryn Freeman, Daniel Freeman, Stephen Freeman, Joel Freeman, Melissa Calvert, Stefanie Dowd, David Johns, Eric Ellison, Ryan Freeman, Gwen Freeman, and Alexandra Freeman; 21 great-grandchildren, Jack Freeman, Rick Freeman, Nathan Freeman, Summer Freeman, Esme Villalon, James Villalon, Maleena Cabrera, Kyanna Cabrera, Samuel Freeman, Charles Freeman, Peter Freeman, Carter Dowd, Chloe Dowd, Scarlett Dowd, Fiona Dowd, Krista Ellison, Joshua Ellison, Alyssa Ellison, Drew Ellison, Tristan Freeman, and Gemma Freeman; three great great-grandchildren, Ariel Ellison, Saraia Ellison, and Reagan Ellison; and a brother, John David Freeman and his wife Doreen of Pomona Park, FL as well as nieces, nephews, and friends beyond counting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jimmie; and two grandsons, Patrick Freeman, and Anthony Freeman.
