William R. Ghent Jr., aged 91, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. He was born on June 24, 1933, to William and Charlotte Ghent in New York, NY, and throughout his remarkable life, he touched the hearts of all who knew him.

William Ghent was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary Anne Ghent, with whom he shared sixty years of cherished marriage. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and commitment, and his loss is deeply felt by his family and friends.

Professionally, William served with distinction in both the Coast Guard and the New York Sanitation Department. His career was marked by a strong sense of duty and service to his community, reflecting his steadfast character and dedication to public service.

In addition to his illustrious career, William Ghent was a beloved brother, survived by Gary Ghent Sr., who will cherish his memory dearly. He was also a devoted father to four sons, in order of age Stephen, Scott and wife Christine, Shawn and wife Bonnie, Keith and his wife Rebecca, each of whom inherited his values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. His pride and joy extended to his eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness and pride throughout his life.

William Ghent's life was a tapestry woven with kindness, strength, and unwavering support for his loved ones. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his wisdom, and his ability to find humor in any situation. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

To celebrate William Ghent's life and honor his memory, graveside service will be on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 10:30am at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, Florida 32754. Canaveral National Cemetery’s policy rejects any flowers sent. Donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Parkinson’s Foundation, or the American Cancer Society, reflecting his spirit of generosity and community support.

Arrangements are by Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel).
