Age 93, was called home to the lord on August 24, 2021. He was born on October 24, 1927, son to Nicholas and Angela Patsio. Bill was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Ridge Tech in Cambridge Massachusetts. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater. He attended law school at Suffolk Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. He left his studies in Law to support his father in the Restaurant Business.
He moved with his family to Winter Park, Florida, in 1970, where he carried the family legacy as a successful restaurateur and made his mark in the industry. Anyone that visited any of his restaurants was always greeted by him personally with a huge smile and handshake, followed by his extraordinary sense of humor and laughter.
Many remember him from Gringo's Mexican Restaurant, Winter Park, Sambo's, Winter Park, Patsio's Diner, Casselberry, and Peekers Oyster Bar, Casselberry, just to name a few of the restaurants in which he owned in the Orlando area. He received extraordinary reviews from the most trusted critic, Scott Joseph, and was featured in Orlando Magazine's Best of Diners.
He had an abundance of love for his family, and instilled values, morals, respect, and religion. He was loving, devoted, hardworking, spirited, humorous, and smart. He was extremely proud of his Greek Orthodox religion/heritage, and often spoke about the Greek Orthodox Church and Greek Philosophy. He was often compared to the Father on "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". He served many years on the Church Council in Cambridge, Massachusetts and also held the position as Director of the Sunday School program for 12 years.
He had a heart of gold and was the type of man that would do anything he could to help anyone, including feeding the homeless, even having them as guests to Holiday dinners with his family in his home.
The love he exhibited for his wife, Joyce Patsio, who he always refer to as "The love of his life", was pure and real in a marriage of over 74 years. He never let a day go by without saying "I love you" to her and sealing it with a kiss. She was his world and he let everyone know it.
He was always thinking about everyone else, even when he was sick in the hospital. His humor, his amazing stories, were priceless……… He often spoke about the time he fought the two-time World Feather-Weight Champion, Willie Pep, who tried to convince him to train and go into professional boxing. He loved to talk about the time he made fast friends with Mickey Rooney and came home one evening with Rooney's Cadillac and told the family they were all moving to Hollywood, which his wife laughed and shut down immediately.
His humor and zest for life are admired by many and he was often referred to as "Bill the Greek".
He will always be remembered by his larger than life personality, hard work ethic, his infectious laugher, caring heart, warm embrace, and sense of humor.
