Zachary Jacob Summerow

It’s with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Zachary Summerow, age 10, who hung up his superhero cape on August 15, 2024 after his ultimate showdown with cancer. 

Though his time with us was short, his impact was simply magical. Zachary was a kind-hearted and adventurous spirit, known for his love of Pokémon (Pikachu remained his undefeated favorite), Minecraft, dragons, and the ocean’s magical creatures, especially turtles, which he admired for their strength.

Zachary’s creativity knew no bounds. He could take you on the most spectacular adventure watching him catch the most elusive Pokémon, or building an epic Minecraft world that stretched your imagination along with his. He brought you along for the ride as he embraced every adventure with a wide-eyed sense of wonder. And his playful spirit was so infectious, before you knew it, you could find yourself doing the “Booty Scooty” right along with him! He loved exploring aquariums and could tell you anything you wanted to know about his favorite creatures, particularly sea turtles, which he admired for their resilience – a reflection of his own indomitable spirit. And he never met an axolotl (don’t worry we all had to look it up) that he didn’t exclaim, “was so cute!”

What truly made Zachary shine was his deep love for the people in his life. His friends, cousins, and extended family were more than just his companions; they were his teammates in every mission, partners in every crime…ahem, we mean game, and his greatest joy. Zachary cherished every moment with them, always laughing, creating, and loving with his whole heart.

Despite his battle with mean old Mr. Cancer, Zachary approached each day with love, bravery, and laughter. He leaves behind cherished memories of a little boy who lived like a superhero, spreading joy to all who knew him. His bright smile, infectious laughter, and heroic determination will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Zachary is survived by his loving parents, his siblings, his grandmothers, and his extended family, and an entire village of friends who will miss his light.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Zachary’s memory to Zachary's Cancer Journey - an effort that would make him proud.

Rest in peace, Zachary, our brave little hero. May you forever swim with the turtles and soar with the stars.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando.

A viewing and visitation with the family will be on Saturday, August 24 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm preceding the service at the funeral home.
